Look Ma, We got an A
Here is the post verbatim from the awesome site Beerschoolblog.com
Posted on August 19th, 2009 by beerschoolblog
So I (Brian) have this friend that home brews. I know I know….big deal…who doesn’t home brew these days?!?! Well, first of all the beer is VERY good, and they “brew good and do good” — please check out our friends at NOEL Brewing
Here’s what makes them stand out besides just really good bee. They’re mission is bigger than beer, I know that may sound shocking to some but it’s actually really cool. Until NOEL becomes a household name (which we’re pretty sure it’s going to become) they are using their brew to generate profits that they will help people in need. I attended a fund raiser to help out a friend of Michael Gilbert (co founder of NOEL) who has recently incurred some pretty hefty medical bills. So I got to try 3 different NOEL brews and my donation was going to a great cause…perfect!
THE BEER: Ellie’s Amber Ale - Originally brewed to help raise funds for Ellies’ Run For Africa. It is what an Amber Ale should be. Hints of hops that aren’t overpowering, a sweet malty finish that leaves you wanting more. Very, very good.
Byun in the Sun - this was brewed specifically for the fundraiser I attended. It’s a summer ale with a hot day in mind. There are a number of Summer Ales out there that don’t seem to think of the season! It’s HOT in the summer people, keep it refreshing. Well, NOEL brewing does exactly that. It’s lighter in color and taste, with just the right amount of hops.
The IPA - I got a small taste of NOEL’s IPA. WOW! Can’t wait to have more of this. It’s hoppy and wonderful.
One more great thing about NOEL: BREWGIGS! What’s a brewgig??? “Well, it’s like food catering, only it’s better because it’s beer.” The folks from NOEL will come to your event and provide the beer. What else could you ask for really. It’s what they do! Check out their site for more info.

Another reason my wife is awesome!!!

As if the fact that she's stunningly beautiful, incredibly smart, hilariously funny, and impeccably talented in everything that she does wasn't enough; she had to go and kick it up a notch. Bam! (timely I know)
Last night she was helping me brew a batch of beer (for an upcoming brew gig) and it came time to throw away the spent grain. This is the left over grain used in the brewing process. We have thrown it away before but it starts to smell bad when it sits in our trash can for a week before the city comes to pick it up. So there we were, trying to
Ahh such beauty, such grace, and in her infinite giving spirit she said, "I wonder if we can give that spent grain to a local farmer or a community garden. Next thing i know she is on the phone with a lady from the community garden that was so excited to have the stuff. But wait, there's more!
While I was tending the boil, carefully adding the insane amounts of hops (an IPA for the lucky brewgig client), she comes back down to the garage with a measuring cup and tells me that she is going to make me chocolate chip cookies with some of the spent grains. WOW!
I am a lucky man. Not only do i have a supportive wife that will help me brew a batch of beer even into the wee hours of the night, but she'll make me chocolate chip spent grain cookies too.
Brew good to do good- at its finest-
Cheers!

What a Night!

Noel Nation,
Saturday night was a huge success and everyone had a blast. The beer was cold, the food was hot, the bocce was fierce and the music was chill (but not Miller Chill...) After the last empty beer cup was tossed in the trash, we counted the donations, and we are extremely proud to report that together, we raised over $1300 at the door. Thank you all for your generous donations and for coming out to support our neighbor Detcher Byun.
*If you were unable to attend the event of if would like to make an additional donation to help Detcher with his rather large medical expenses, please click here (and select Nashville Byun Fund).
We featured two beers at the event, Ellie's Amber Ale and Byun in the Sun Summer Ale. We received quality feedback from a number of you- but if you didn't have a chance to comment- please do! We want to perfect our recipes and brew the best beer around. Just click on the comment link below this post to hit us up- or email Michael.
All of us at Noel Brewing Co. would like to send out a special thanks to Neal Carpenter and David Spencer for providing an amazing soundtrack to the event. Please support these two talented artists by checking out a show or buying a cd (or 3).

The Byun Fund Fest 411
Hello beautiful people,
It's almost here. Can you smell the BBQ yet? Can you hear the music of Dave Spencer and Neal Carpenter? Can you hear the roaring crowds cheer for the undisputed Bocce Tournament winner? We certainly can here at Noel Global HQ.
That's right folks this Saturday is the much anticipated Byun Fund Fest, an event to raise money for the medical bills of Detcher Byun. Here's the 411 for the day of.
Parking: please visit our website to see a map and get parking instructions. Carpooling is appreciated (Mutha Earf thanks you).
Money: This is a suggested donation event. Remember that a $20 donation gets you a brand new shiny, one of a kind, officially licensed custom aluminum Noel Brewing Co. keychain bottle opener...(deep breath...) Any amount you can give to help Detcher out is greatly appreciated. Dave Spencer and Neal Carpenter will also have their music for sale and I know you won't want to leave without purchasing a CD.
Food: The menu right now is Pulled BBQ prepared for us by the gracious Jimmy Threadgill and his team of culinary experts at Cumberland Heights. We will also have chips, coleslaw and cookies.
Bocce: the beautiful Jenny Gilbert will be "Babeing" (the female version of manning) the tournament. She will explain the rules of the game (this will be "Roaming Bocce") and the winner of the tournament will receive a bad ass Noel Brew T-shirt.
Beer: We will be serving 2 types of beer-
1) "Ellie's Amber Ale"- this amber ale recipe was originally created for a fund raising event for Ellie's Run for Africa. Its has a great amber color to it, and it balances a sweet malty flavor with a slightly hoppy finish. Mmmmmm- Tasty...
2) "Byun in the Sun" Summer Ale- This recipe was hand brewed with a hot day in mind. The Summer Ale is lighter in color and in taste but still delivers a little hop kick-in-the-mouth to refresh your palate.
We can't wait to see all your shining faces!
Byun Fund Fest, Saturday, August 9 from 5-9 pm

Mathenomics. (It's new...)

Greetings Noel nation.
In an attempt to boost our efforts to help out the global icon Detcher Byun, and provide some relief from his infamous and increasing medical bills, we have decided to SLASH ticket prices for the Byun Fund Fest.
We know what you're thinking..."Wait, won't that decrease the amount of money we give to Detcher?"
Possibly...but we are changing the admission price to a "suggested" $20. Whatever you can give to help out this cause would be greatly appreciated. We would rather have someone's $10 than not their $20...see what we just did there...that's called mathenomics. (It's new, and its crazy smart....)
But seriously folks, we just want people to come and have a great time and do what they can for our neighbor. As a token of our appreciation to those that did and will purchase $20 tickets- we will be giving you a brand-spankin'-new official custom aluminum Noel Brew keychain bottle opener. Ooooohhh....Ahhhhhhhh. (they're really cool, and handy!)
You can still buy tickets/donate money and read about the details via our website: www.noelbrew.com

Thanks for your love and support, The Noel Brew Team

Detcher Byun

Ladies and Gentlemen...(especially you ladies) Here is the man himself- Detcher Byun...he's the one in the hospital bed.
Currently his medical bills are over $20,000 and rising- just for breaking his leg. He has such a positive outlook on his whole situation and is at peace with whatever God is doing.
Here's the deal, if Byun Fund Fest doesn't raise enough money, then we will have to resort to Plan B.
Plan B consists of 3 parts:
1) Kev, Andy and Me playing blind-folded wiffle ball in the front yard.
2) a video camera.
3) an envelope addressed to America's Funniest Home Videos and hope for the best.
